To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement, the joy of strong story telling by actors shaping strength filled characters makes a return to our screens in strange new worlds , it is a joy to watch, 46 years a fan , this show commands my attention just as the original series did so many moons ago ,the details are in place , and as for Anson Mount's portrayal of captain pike, well all can say is that in due time it will stand the test of time and enjoy the same longevity of the Kirk character, I even saw him portray Jeffery Hunter's mannerisms and facial expressions , yet remaining original in performance, the writers it seems have opened up to each other to produce the best storylines possible , rather than compete with each other, you can feel the team effort in the production from start to end, I simply cannot praise it enough, all the characters and things Gene Roddenberry wished to showcase and was back then censored by short sighted minds has now been presented in a spectacular fashion, I can only imagine as he looks down upon , his smile.
To all at paramount may I quote captain Picard himself and say "nicely done"XD.

Came home tired from my working day, feet up and a cup of tea, me and the wife always watch our traditional films , the seasonal ones which starts on the 1st December and ends on the new year, this film has now been added to that traditional list, its warm ,unexpectedly funny and a delight to watch, from start to end, there will always be those individuals that focus on one aspect and critique anything that reminds them of their own internal ugliness, and most reviews seem centred on a reaction to anything that spot lights shame within, and the truth is all this film is truly guilty of is to show current adversity issues people suffer and help you rise above them by lifting the soul, in a very gentle way of story telling at its best, so my only advice is to watch for yourself and enjoy it ,as we will every year until the end.
As a writer I appreciate this Star Trek series more than all the others, the sheer intricacies of the various weaves of character's lives is beyond the imagination and follows the Vulcan Idic like no series ever did before nor after.
One constant of life is death, and deep space nine never tries to take you to far away from that simple reality,it doesn't hide in the points of view made, it's the braver series by far in terms of writing, mainly because it shatters the perfect veneer ,that most fans have, Star Trek does speak as a whole for a better future for humanity, but the galaxy is a huge place, with cultures beyond the count, and one day hopefully we will make contact, but in the meantime ds9 reminds us that while earth has become a paradise, maybe other places in the universe are struggling to reach theirs , life is not all sunshine and roses at least not yet, but this series offers more insight into the various races of Star Trek like no other series ever did, the depths they went to is in part a clue to the sheer brilliance of its writing, the interpersonal relationships that develop along the way seem almost a natural happenstance of real people put together in a real place ,such is the quality, sadly never to be repeated in my life time, the talents of the actors that portray this side of the trek universe do so with such passion ,it sells you , so if your ready to take the trip do so, but do it with eyes open ,there are more prospectives to learn from than just the great bird of the galaxy's , overall personally I believe that as a writer Gene Roddenberry would be proud that his creation both inspired others to write and to make other people think as an end result, Star Trek has taken on a life of its own , but of deep space nine I would simply say chun dol go daná , (to boldly go) and added it's own colour to the ever.growing tapestry started 50 years ago.
